Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Bwindi's ancient rainforest covers over 330 square kilometres of steep, mist-covered terrain in southwestern Uganda.
About the Region
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the most biologically diverse areas on Earth. Its dense montane and lowland forest has survived the last ice age, making it one of the oldest habitats in Africa. The park is divided into four sectors — Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo — each offering gorilla trekking permits and a distinct landscape experience.
Beyond gorilla trekking, Bwindi supports over 120 mammal species, 350 bird species, and 220 butterfly species. The surrounding Batwa communities offer cultural encounters that add depth to any visit. Accommodation ranges from basic community guesthouses to high-end luxury lodges perched on the forest edge.
