Karamoja
Uganda's wild northeast. A frontier region of dramatic landscapes, traditional pastoralist cultures, and emerging tourism opportunities.
About the Region
Karamoja is Uganda's largest and least-visited sub-region, occupying much of the northeast. It is home to the Karamojong people, semi-nomadic pastoralists with a distinctive cultural identity. The landscape varies from dry plains and rocky mountains to seasonal rivers and scattered homesteads.
Tourism in Karamoja is still in its early stages, offering adventurous travellers an authentic and uncrowded experience. Highlights include Kidepo Valley National Park, the Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve, Mount Moroto, and cultural encounters with the Karamojong and Tepeth communities.
