Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge

Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is a luxury lodge in Uganda, situated in the Nkuringo area of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge sits at approximately 2,000 metres on the Nteko Ridge in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The lodge has eight private stone cottages — six with one bedroom and two family-sized units — each with a wood-burning fireplace and butler service. On clear days, the views extend across the Great Rift Valley to the Virunga Volcanoes in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

The lodge was built through a partnership between the Africa Wildlife Foundation and the local Nkuringo community, and it has generated nearly two million US dollars for local education and healthcare projects since opening. An organic garden on site supplies fresh ingredients for the kitchen, and a massage spa operates from a traditional wattle-and-daub hut.

From Clouds, guests have access to around 10 habituated gorilla families across the Nkuringo and Rushaga sectors, as well as the gorilla habituation experience for those who want a longer encounter. Reaching the lodge typically involves a one-hour flight to Kisoro airstrip followed by a 1.5-hour drive, or an 8-9 hour road journey from Entebbe. The remote location and high altitude are part of what makes the setting distinctive.
