About the Region
Fort Portal is a pleasant, well-maintained town in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. The surrounding area is famous for its cluster of over 50 crater lakes, many of which are nestled in lush green hills with views of the Rwenzori range.
The town serves as a convenient base for visiting Kibale National Park (about 30 km south), and for exploring the crater lakes on foot, by bike, or by car.
