About the Region
Queen Elizabeth National Park stretches across the equator in western Uganda, bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo. It encompasses a remarkable range of habitats — from open savanna and acacia woodland to dense tropical forest, crater lakes, and the shores of Lakes Edward and George connected by the Kazinga Channel.
The park is home to nearly 100 mammal species and over 600 bird species, making it one of the most biodiverse protected areas in Africa. Key attractions include boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel, game drives on the Kasenyi plains, chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge, and the famous tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector.
