Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Uganda's smallest national park, set among the Virunga volcanoes. Mgahinga offers gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking, and volcano hiking in a dramatic volcanic landscape.
About the Region
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park covers just 33.7 square kilometres at the border of Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Despite its small size, it is home to one habituated gorilla family and offers unique experiences not found elsewhere in Uganda, including golden monkey tracking and hikes up the Virunga volcanoes — Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabinyo.
The park's high-altitude bamboo and hagenia forests create a landscape quite different from Bwindi. The Batwa people have deep cultural ties to this area, and the Batwa trail through the park offers insight into their traditional forest-dwelling way of life.
