About the Region
Kidepo Valley National Park covers 1,442 square kilometres in the rugged Karamoja region, near the borders of South Sudan and Kenya. Its semi-arid landscape of open plains, rocky outcrops, and palm-lined valleys is unlike any other park in Uganda.
Kidepo is home to species found nowhere else in Uganda, including cheetah, striped hyena, aardwolf, caracal, and greater and lesser kudu. Large herds of buffalo, elephants, and Jackson's hartebeest roam the Narus Valley, while the seasonal Kidepo Valley to the north offers a more remote landscape. The Karamojong pastoralists who live around the park add a rich cultural dimension to visits.
