Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort

Lake Bunyonyi Eco Resort

Birdnest Resort sits on a hillside above Lake Bunyonyi, near Kabale in southwestern Uganda. The property is terraced into the slope, giving most rooms and common areas unobstructed views over the lake and its scatter of small islands. Lake Bunyonyi — at around 1,960 metres elevation — is one of the deepest lakes in Africa and is bilharzia-free, making it one of the few Ugandan lakes where swimming is considered safe. The resort offers three room categories: Deluxe Rooms, Deluxe Executive Rooms, and Deluxe Cottages. Facilities include a swimming pool, a terrace restaurant, and a dock at the waterfront. Canoes are available free of charge to overnight guests, and the resort can arrange motorboat trips to nearby islands (approximately 150,000 UGX) and visits to the Batwa community (approximately 250,000 UGX). A pool table is available in the common area. Birdnest is often used as a rest stop between Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Kabale, or as a standalone destination for travelers who want a day or two on the lake. The setting is quiet, the altitude keeps temperatures moderate, and the lake itself is the main attraction — paddling, swimming, or simply watching the changing light across the water.
