About Kyaninga Lodge
Kyaninga Lodge overlooks Kyaninga Crater Lake with the Rwenzori Mountains as a backdrop, near Fort Portal in western Uganda. The lodge has 9 cottages set on raised platforms connected by wooden walkways, each built from hand-carved logs. The construction took six years and was the vision of one individual — a level of craftsmanship and personal dedication that is evident throughout the property. Marble basins sit on Elgon olive wood pedestals, claw-footed baths and glass-walled showers are standard in each cottage.
An infinity pool looks out over the crater lake, and a wellness spa offers massage and relaxation treatments. The kitchen serves an African-international fusion menu using produce from the lodge's own garden. The combination of hand-built architecture, crater lake setting, and mountain backdrop creates an atmosphere that is distinctive even by the standards of Uganda's high-end lodges.
Activities from Kyaninga include chimpanzee trekking at nearby Kibale National Park, swimming in crater lakes, nature walks through the surrounding forest, bird watching, and monkey spotting on the lodge grounds. The lodge also runs social impact projects supporting disabled children in the local community. Kyaninga is often chosen by travelers who appreciate architectural craft and want an ultra-luxury retreat in a natural setting with access to Kibale's primates.
